Eligibility
Introduction
The RNZN is increasing its recruiting pool to include applicants of foreign nationality with previous or current military service. There is a current requirement to fill vacancies with skilled personnel with comparable qualifications and experience that cannot be satisfied by internal career progression within the RNZN.
Eligibility
Applicants will need to meet the following basic criteria for consideration:
- Be a current or ex-serving member of the UK, Australian, US or Canadian Armed Forces.
- Have been a citizen of either UK, Australia, USA, Canada or NZ for a minimum period of 10 years.
If successful through the recruitment process you will need to gain the right to live and work in NZ. We strongly recommend you apply for and gain Permanent NZ Residency via the Skilled Migrant category. If you are not eligible then, dependant on your circumstances, you may apply for a “work to residence” permit or a general work permit.
The RNZN is unable to get involved in the Immigration process as we cannot influence the NZ Immigration Service in any way, however, if successful through our recruiting process, we will produce an Offer of Service (Offer of Employment) which will facilitate your application for Permanent NZ Residency.

If you do not have any previous military experience you will need to follow a slightly different recruitment and selection process. The majority of this process will need to be completed in New Zealand. You will also need to meet the following criteria:
- Have held citizenship of Australia, Canada, US or the UK for at least 10 years.

2. Have lived in New Zealand for at least 5 years
