NEW LIFESTYLE:
The three core values – COURAGE, COMMITMENT and COMRADESHIP – are an essential part of naval life. This is a life that is characterised by both hard work and fun. The Navy is based in Devonport, Auckland which means that the majority of Naval personnel spend their careers based only in this area, providing stability for their families.
NEW ADVENTURE:
With new opportunities for your career as well as deployments to places that you would not normally have the opportunity to go, you will experience new adventures with the RNZN. So we are looking for the right people for the Navy of tomorrow to provide leadership in a wide range of complex and challenging situations.
– Are you one of those people?
NEW ZEALAND:
The array of exciting activities and spectacular scenery in New Zealand is unmatched anywhere in the world. Experience the unique culture, the warm and hospitable people, and innovative adventure activities that take place amid dramatic and diverse landscapes. For those that seek pure adrenaline bungy jumping, quad biking, paraponting and jet boating are just a few of the activities lined up for the more adventurous person. It is also about pure relaxation. New Zealand is an ideal place where you can feel free to indulge, with a weekend away at a luxury lodge or spa resort offering the ultimate in pampering. If you want to explore the creative and cultural riches of New Zealand, there are many opportunities in every region.
NAVY:
The Royal New Zealand Navy is an innovative and dynamic organisation that makes a significant contribution, both in New Zealand and overseas. Our maritime capability is delivered through our ships and our people. The ‘right’ people are the most important element of this capability. Everyone has the opportunity to contribute to making the Navy a world class organisation, and everyone is encouraged to use their skills to ‘make a difference’.
- Can you make a difference?
The Navy is currently expanding to become a more responsive and versatile organisation.
To help achieve this, we are increasing our recruiting pool to include candidates with current or
previous service in foreign navies, particularly from the UK, Australia, Canada and the USA.

Vacancies
We have vacancies in a variety of branches, especially the Marine Engineering, Weapons Engineering, Hydrographic, Diving and Communications. Due to the fluid nature of our vacancies we are unable to maintain an updated list.
Please register your interest and we will reply to you asap.
The priority is on personnel with recent operational and sea going experience who are prepared to fill operational billets within the RNZN.
It is a large misconception that candidates are automatically offered a reduction in rank on joining the RNZN. We aim to employ personnel from overseas at the same rank which they have previously served, but this is entirely dependent on our vacancies. As a result we will consider applications from personnel outside these rank levels, however, we are only in a position to offer employment at the rank level advertised.
Immigration
If successful through the recruitment process you will need to gain the right to live and work in NZ. We strongly recommend you apply for and gain Permanent NZ Residency via the Skilled Migrant category. If you are not eligible then, dependant on your circumstances, you may apply for a “work to residence” permit or a general work permit.
The RNZN is unable to get involved in the Immigration process as we cannot influence the NZ Immigration Service in any way, however, if successful through our recruiting process, we will produce an Offer of Service (Offer of Employment) which will facilitate your application for Permanent NZ Residency.
