New Naval Officers ready for Service Careers

In front of an audience including their proud families, invited guests and representatives from the New Zealand Defence Force, 29 Naval Officers, including 2 from Papua New Guinea, will graduate on Friday 24 June 2005 after 5 months training at the Navy’s Officer Training School in Devonport.
The training period covered many diverse and challenging areas from fire fighting, sail training, sea survival, sword and pack drill, naval history and traditions, hours and many miles of physical fitness training through to classroom instruction and leadership and management skills, all designed to provide a foundation of skills and knowledge for their future careers.
The Minister of Defence, the Honourable Mark Burton, will review the parade, present prizes and welcome the graduates to the Navy and the NZ Defence Force.
The top prize, the Minister of Defence Sword of Honour will be presented to the best overall graduating Officer.

Media are welcome to attend the Graduation Parade to be held at 1030 Friday 24 June 2005 at the New Entry School Parade Ground, North Yard of the Naval Base, off Titchener Drive, Devonport. Please advise Lieutenant Commander Barbara Cassin if you will be attending. Photographic ID is required for entry to the Naval Base.
