New Naval Ratings Ready for Service Careers

In front of an audience including their proud families, 66 Naval Ratings from Basic Common Training (BCT) Course 05/1 will graduate at 1300, Friday 15 April 2005 after 14 weeks training at the Navy’s New Entry Training School in Devonport. 
 
The 66 graduates are from all over New Zealand with Dunedin the most southern town of allegiance and Kaitaia the most northern.

Commodore Bruce Pepperell, MBE will review the parade and present the following prizes, the Top Gun Trophy, the Tamaki Naval and ex-Naval Club Sports Trophy, the New Entry School Book Prize, Captain Palmer Tankard and Guard Commanders Tankard.  The Spencer Tewsley Cup and Tankard for the best all round New Entry Trainee will also be awarded at the Parade.

Background

BCT 05/1 started on 10 January and completes with the Graduation Parade on 15 April 2005 covering 14 weeks of training in the following areas: General service knowledge, kit maintenance and presentation, naval ceremonial and parade training, physical education and recreational training, weapon training, basic seamanship, situational self-leadership, sea survival, damage control and fire fighting, first aid, shipboard terminology and routines and naval excellence.  On completion of their basic common training, the 66 Graduates will start their basic branch training in the following braches/trades: Seaman Combat Specialists (13), Electronic Technicians (12), Marine Technicians (11), Chefs (8), Combat System Specialists (7), Hydro graphic System Operators (6), Medical Assistants (5), Stores Accountants (3) and Writer (1).
