Navy Patrol Craft on Exercise in the Marlborough Sounds

Exercise SQUADEX 2005 is an annual Naval Volunteer Reserve Exercise and will be held this year in the Marlborough Sounds from 12 - 20 January 2005.
HMNZS WAKAKURA (Wellington), HMNZS KIWI (Christchurch), HMNZS HINAU (Auckland) and HMNZS MOA (Dunedin) with support from the Navy’s seamanship and
navigational training support ship HMNZS KAHU, will be put through their paces at sea involving training activities with Fisheries and Customs.
The inshore patrol craft will be arriving in Picton during the evening of Monday 10 January 2005. The other ships will also make port visits to Picton.
Invitation to Media
There are opportunities for the media to observe the exercise onboard the five boats at sea leaving Picton at 8.30am Thursday 13 January and arriving back at Picton 6pm Sunday 16 January. Day sailings can be arranged on request.
Activities at sea will include aviation training, multi-agency boardings and inspections with Fisheries and Customs.
