The rank of Captain is denoted by four gold stripes, the top stripe features the executive curl. Captains, like Commanders have a set of gold embroidered leaves on the peak of their caps. There are only around 14 Captains serving in the RNZN, so this is a very senior rank; many captains serve for more than 25 years before attaining this rank.
