The rank of Lieutenant is denoted by two gold stripes.

The rank of Lieutenant is denoted by two gold stripes, the top stripe features the executive curl. This rank is generally achieved after 6-7 years of service, and is held for a minimum of 5 years. Lieutenants are professionally fully qualified in their chosen specialisation. There are approximately 120 Lieutenants in the RNZN.
