Trafalgar Day 2005

HMS VICTORY at the Battle of Trafalgar from a Nicholas Pocock painting

Trafalgar Day is recognised by Navy personnel every year, but 2005 was the bicentennial of Nelson's great victory, and commemorations were widespread throughout the country.

You can read about some of the events in which New Zealand's Navy participated.

In Britain, our Navy presented a specially commissioned painting to the Royal Navy.

View photos of the presentation on 13 October, and of the painting aboard HMS VICTORY at Portsmouth on 21 October.

In Nelson ten ships of the New Zealand and Australian Navies congregated together.

View photographs of some of these ships in Nelson.

Dunedin's Naval Reserve unit TOROA held a Parade in commemoration.
