Navy Band In Concert, Art Deco Weekend

12 February 2013

The Navy Band will once again be entertaining the people of Hawkes Bay with concerts and parades this weekend.

A new feature this year is the presentation of a special one-off lunchtime concert on Friday 15 February, 12.00pm at the Napier Municipal Theatre.

With new Director of Music, Lieutenant Commander (LTCDR) Owen Clarke at the helm, the band is keen to get involved with the community and play in a wider variety of public concerts.

"Art Deco celebrations are a great synergy with the Navy Band – the naval link is strong with the region, and we love to be part of the entertainment and enthusiasm of this weekend," says LTCDR Clarke.

"The Navy Band is a fantastic ensemble and performing to the public is what we are about. The band thrives on it. This concert will be entertaining, fun and with music to suit all tastes."

The Navy Band will play two concerts at the Napier Municipal Theatre on Friday 15 February. The lunchtime concert is a new addition to their programme and follows a special concert for school children at 10:00am. The performances will be packed with music everyone can relate to, ranging from traditional military music to dixie, jazz, classical and more. The Band will be accompanied by Viktoriya Dodoka, a world class soprano, and guest vocalist from Wellington, Stephanie Paris.

On Saturday 16 February, the Band will play at the Soundshell on Marine Parade in a concert and Cabaret from 9.00pm until midnight.

LTCDR Clarke is looking forward to his first concert in the Hawkes Bay with the Navy Band.

"You won’t be disappointed, this concert will be entertaining for all ages".
