14 November 2011

Australian and New Zealand military personnel serving with the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in East Timor have paused to remember fallen comrades on Remembrance Day 2011.

Over 300 ISF sailors, soldiers, airmen and airwomen joined together in Dili for a solemn service remembering past comrades who have fought and died serving their country.

During the service Commander ISF, Colonel Luke Foster, payed tribute to Craftsman Beau Pridue, who tragically died in a vehicle accident in East Timor earlier this year.

“Today is a day of remembrance, and today we remember the sacrifice of Craftsman Beau Pridue,” said Colonel Foster.

“Craftsman Pridue was a fine soldier who died serving his country. His commitment and dedication to helping the people of East Timor will never be forgotten.”

At the eleventh hour the Ode to the fallen was read and the Last Post sounded as four members of the ISF Catafalque Party stood vigil at the Cenotaph.

“Remembrance Day reawakens the vision of our forbears, to commit to a world where there will be no future wars, but a world of peace and justice,” said ISF Padre, Flight Lieutenant Timothy Hodgson.

“Lest we forget.”

The ISF is in East Timor at the invitation of the Government of Timor-Leste to support local security forces to maintain a secure and stable environment.
