Navy Band Unleashes New Director Of Music

NAVY BAND

1 March 2013

The Royal New Zealand Navy Band presents its first major public concert for 2013 under the baton of new Director of Music, Lieutenant Commander (LTCDR) Owen Clarke on Sunday 10 March.

The Navy Band performs their show: The Navy in Concert, at 2.30pm on Sunday 10th March at the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna. The concert showcases the Navy Band, featuring guest performers and soloists including Mark Hadlow, actor, vocalist and New Zealand personality; and principal trombonist of the NZ symphony Orchestra, David Bremner.

The Navy Band is regarded as one of the country’s finest military bands and contains many of the best wind and brass musicians in New Zealand.

Recently transferred from a successful career as the Air Force Band conductor, LTCDR Clarke is behind the push for the band to present more public concerts.

"The Navy Band is a fantastic ensemble and performing to the public is what we are about, the band thrives on it.

"This concert will be entertaining, fun and with music to suit all tastes," said LTCDR Clarke.

The range of musical styles and genres the band plays is vast due to the varied nature of work it is required to undertake, ranging from ceremonial events to school and public concerts.

LTCDR Clarke is looking forward to his first public concert in Auckland with the Navy Band. "You won’t be disappointed as this concert will be entertaining for all ages".
