Eleven sailors from Royal New Zealand Navy tanker HMNZS ENDEAVOUR spent Anzac Day in Sydney, marching alongside their recent Australian shipmates.
Over a three month period concluding 12 April 2013, 11 Royal Australian Naval personnel were seconded to HMNZS ENDEAVOUR. Eight of the sailors were from HMAS SUCCESS.
The Command team from SUCCESS visited ENDEAVOUR when she was deployed to Sydney in March 2013. It was evident to both sides of the Tasman that there were strong bonds of comradeship developing between the sailors of both ships, explains the Command Warrant Officer of ENDEAVOUR, Warrant Officer Steve Bradley.
"To foster these relationships, it was agreed that sailors from ENDEAVOUR would participate in Anzac Day in Sydney.
"The NZ sailors were embedded as part of SUCCESS’s Ship’s Company. They marched proudly alongside the Australians, attending the dawn parade at Martin Place, and the morning parade in George St, Central Sydney.
"The NZ sailors were selected as a reward for good performance during the first quarter of 2013," WO Bradley said. "We wanted to recognise the commitment and professionalism of our sailors."
The ENDEAVOUR contingent visited SUCCESS on Friday 26 April whilst the ship is in dry dock at Fleet Base East before returning to New Zealand.
