Using new technology to attract future recruits

7 July 2011

The New Zealand Defence Force has introduced a new recruiting and engagement process using state of the art web technology hosted in revolutionary cloud technology.

“The aim is to engage and educate younger people earlier on in their lives about the future world of possibilities that is Defence Careers using online and social media channels,” says Commander Nigel Philpott who heads the new Defence Recruiting Organisation.

“Joining the Defence Force is an attractive, exciting and rewarding option for many young men and women who are 17 and over,” he says.

“We’re looking to build an online talent pool of interested young people. We’ll be making sure they get all the information they need about what it is really like in the military and how they can start an exciting and rewarding career in the Navy, Army or Air Force.

“We’ll send them invitations to join events, keep them informed about Defence Force deployments such as helping out with the Christchurch earthquake or simply discuss their interests,” CDR Philpott says. “We can even help them choose the right subjects at school and set some goals.”

A new Defence and NZ-on-Air sponsored TV series for young people, called Operation Hero, will start on TV2 later this year and will be a “window into our world”, showcasing achievements of Kiwi heroes and set amazing challenges to teams of 12 year olds set in a military environment.

If you are interested or know of someone who maybe interested in joining the Navy, Army, or Air Force now, then look online at www.defencecareers.mil.nz.  Or to check out who we are and what we do then visit www.operationHQ.co.nz or phone 08001FORCE.
