Defence Force cans come from Air Sea and Land

Auckland City Mission fundraiser, James Holt, will do a tandem jump with the Air Force Kiwi Blue parachute team into the Auckland Domain on Friday. The jump will be part of a handover by air, sea and land of canned food collected by Defence Force personnel during a charity campaign called Mission Kiwi Can.

The campaign, which ran for the last two weeks, saw personnel from the Navy, Army and Air Force, as well as Navy Reserve, Territorial Force units and Defence Force civilians throughout the country, collecting canned food for local food banks. To date over 5,000 cans have been collected nationwide.

In Auckland cans collected by personnel from the Air Force base at Whenuapai, Devonport Naval Base, Papakura Army Camp and Auckland Northern Battalion Group will be donated to the Auckland City Mission.

What:  Cans will arrive by air, sea and land and will be handed over to Auckland City Mission.

By sea - a Navy Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) will transport cans from Devonport Naval Base to the Spirit of NZ steps on the waterfront. The cans will be transferred to a Navy vehicle for the trip to the Domain.

By air - the Air Force Kiwi Blue parachute team will parachute cans into the Auckland Domain.

By land - an Army vehicle will bring cans collected from Army at Papakura and 3rd Auckland Northern Battalion Group.
