OLPHERT personnel qualify on the new NZDF GLOCK Pistol.

As part of the AWQ you have to strip the weapon and reassemble and carry out the function checks.

HMNZS OLPHERT and Naval Staff personnel recently travelled to RNZAF BASE OHAKEA in order to complete the Annual Weapons Qualification (AWQ) shoot for the new NZDF Glock pistol.

The Glock is being introduced into NZDF service as a replacement for P226 9mm Pistol.

All shooters had to undergo several training periods of transition training to the new weapon. This included presentations on the new weapon and multiple weapon handling drills. All personnel had to prove their competence in the weapons drills prior to attending the actual AWQ.

The AWQ is a series of timed shoots from varying positions and distances from the target.

All but one shooter attending achieved the necessary score to achieve the AWQ qualification.
