(Toroa) Mid-Winter Polar Plunge
The last weekend of June saw Dunedin city, home of HMNZS TOROA, holding the Mid-Winter Carnival. This is a community celebration of winter utilising art and performance with an evening Carnival Procession and hundreds of lanterns.
Come late Sunday morning, it is the turn for the not so faint hearted and those who take to the water like seals; too undertake the Mid-Winter Polar Plunge. TOROA managed to muster a small crew of hearty souls to brave the 10 degree Celsius water temperature; oddly enough, the chilly water temperature was actually warmer than the air temperature above it.
