Lieutenant Commander G.F. McGrath RNZNVR
Lieutenant Commander Gerard McGrath joined the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNZNVR) after a career in the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR).
As a member of HMS PRESIDENT, London’s Division of the RNR, he undertook periods of training at sea on HMS CUMBERLAND, HMS LINDISFARNE, HMS NEWCASTLE and HMS ORWELL. He also completed courses at Britannia Royal Naval College, HMS DRYAD, HMS RALEIGH and RAF LYNEHAM. He was seconded to the Ministry of Defence for a period and participated in exercises at JFHQ NORTHWOOD.
His service as a member of HMNZS NGAPONA has included sea training on HMNZS HINAU, project work for the Directorate of Reserve Forces and Youth Development and the role of Employer Support Liaison Officer.
He has been awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal, the Volunteer Reserves Service Medal and the New Zealand Defence Service Medal.
He was appointed Commanding Officer HMNZS NGAPONA in April 2014.
