Lieutenant Commander Jennie Hoadley joined the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve as an Ordinary Writer at HMNZS NGAPONA in Auckland in 1989.
Lieutenant Commander Hoadley was promoted to Able Writer in 1991 and worked in the Pay, Medical and Ship’s Offices before taking up a commission as a Supply Officer in the rank of Ensign in 1993. She has worked as Captain's Sec, Administration Officer and Training Officer, and has held the Head of Department (HOD) positions in Administration and Training. She was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 2005, the same year she was awarded her Volunteer Reserve Decoration (VRD). She was Recruit Training Officer (HOD) from 2007 to 2009.
Lieutenant Commander Hoadley was the Commanding Officer of HMNZS NGAPONA from April 2009 to December 2011.
In 2012 she moved to Wellington and joined HMNZS OLPHERT as the Unit Employer Support Officer, while concurrently working as a Staff Officer for the Directorate of Reserve Forces and Youth Development.
In April 2013 she joined the RNZN and attended the NZDF Advanced Command and Staff Course, a nine month posting which led to her appointment as Directing Staff at the College in 2014.
Lieutenant Commander Hoadley was born in St Louis, Missouri and moved to Auckland with her family when she was one year old. She graduated from the University of Auckland with a BA in 1991 and a Master of Planning Practice (Hons) in 1998, and is completing her final paper in a Master of International Security. She also holds a Diploma of Teaching from the Auckland College of Education. She is married to Lieutenant Commander Wayne Andrew RNZN and they have three children.
