October 2005 - Naval Reserve anniversaries
HMNZS NGAPONA, headquarters of the Naval Reserve's Auckland branch celebrated two anniversaries in October 2005.
NGAPONA celebrated the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Naval Reserve in 1925, and the 25th anniversary of women being able to enlist in the Volunteer Reserves, over the weekend of 8 and 9 October 2005 at the Auckland Maritime Museum. One of our Inshore Patrol Craft, HMNZS HINAU, was berthed at the Spirit of New Zealand pontoon at the Maritime Museum, and was open to the public from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on both days. RNZN Pipes and Drums entertained the public on the Saturday.
