August 2009 - Chief of Navy visits Tauranga Sub-Unit

Rear Admiral A.J.Parr, MVO, Chief of Navy visited the Tauranga Unit of HMNZS NGAPONA on Wednesday 26 August 2009. The Captain Naval Reserves, Warrant Officer of the Navy, Flag Lieutenant to the Chief of Navy and the Commanding Officer of HMNZS NGAPONA were also in attendance.

The visit commenced with the Chief of Navy (CN) inspecting the ships company on the wharf, framed by a merchant ship leaving the Port of Tauranga. CN spoke with each person on parade, before proceeding inside for a tour of the unit hosted by LT CDR Bob James, the Officer in Charge.

CN then addressed the assembled personnel on the challenges that face the Navy with the introduction of the Protector vessels, the Defence Transformation Programme, and his vision for the Naval Reserves.

After answering questions from the floor, refreshments were served and discussions continued on a less formal basis. CN's visit was part of a national tour of all Reserve establishments.
