On 7 April the Associate Minister of Defence, the Hon Heather Roy inspected the Tauranga Sub Unit of NGAPONA, hosted by Commanding Officer HMNZS NGAPONA and the Officer In Command LTCDR Bob James, RNZNVR. The visit went very well. As a merchant ship was berthed outside the unit no formal parade was possible, so an informal inspection of personnel was held in the Operations Room.
The Associate Minister gave a short address to the Unit, followed by a brief from the OIC on the history of the Tauranga unit and its accomplishments to date. The Minister then inspected the Unit and its capabilities.
Finally there was the opportunity for the Associate Minister to informally chat individually with personnel over light refreshments. Also in attendance for the evening along with the Commanding Officer NGAPONA was CNR and DNR.
