August 2011: NGAPONA Training Weekend
The Ngapona reservists took a plunge into the water to show their “will to survive”. As part of the reserve ships on going training and commitment to supplement the RNZN effectively, the reservist undergo a number of different training courses. The sea survival refresher course was held in August 2011.
The Commanding Officer, LTCDR Jennie Hoadley VRD said, “it is absolutely important for us to be fully trained in the latest sea survival techniques. This exercise will raise the ability of our personnel to do the right things for their own personal safety and those around them if a situation necessitating sea survival was imminent”.
The training lasted a day and compromised of both in class lectures and a practical evolution in the fleet swimming pool. All attendees passed the exam that had a minimum pass mark of 70%.
