October 2014: Naval Vessels visit the Port of Tauranga.

Members of HMNZS NGAPONA’s Tauranga Unit and their families, plus Cadets from Training Ship CHATHAM and the Tauranga Air Training Corps, and their parents, made the most of an opportunity to visit a couple of RNZN ships on a blustery Spring morning. HMNZS MANAWANUI and HMNZS ROTOITI took time out from their Navigation Training programme to visit the Port of Tauranga on Saturday 4th October. The visitors were shown around the ships by enthusiastic Officers under training who were very proud of their temporary homes. The intricacies of navigation were explained on the Bridge, noisy engines observed, sailor accommodation viewed and equipment on the upper deck shown, all while tempting cooking smells for lunch were wafting throughout the ship. An enlightening morning!
