July 2014: IPV Training Weekend (HAWEA)

OSCS Edward Hughes enterers the water while exercising MOB recovery by swimmer.

RNZNVR personnel from HMNZ Ships NGAPONA, OLPHERT, PEGASUS and TOROA assembled in Auckland for familiarisation training on Inshore Patrol Vessel (IPV) HMNZS HAWEA.

Part of the training included several "Man Over Board" (MOB) exercises. In this case it was recovery by swimmer.

Here are some action photos of OSCS Edward Hughes recovering our Oscar by 'Swimmer of the Watch' during the training weekend.

It was the first time that we actually lived on board for the whole weekend, it was a great experience for our new recruits to spend time on a IPV living and experiencing life on board an IPV.

Note: OSCAR is a life size dummy used when practicing MOB exercises. His weight emulates the weight of a person thereby providing realistic training.
