RESERVEX 14: NAVAL RESERVISTS HONOUR THE VETERANS OF THE BATTLE OF THE RIVER PLATE 

HEGG takes the Salute

Naval Reservists from Auckland, Tauranga Wellington Christchurch and Dunedin undertaking their national RESERVEX 14 training period at the Devonport Naval Base were honoured to join the four surviving Veterans of the Battle of the River Plate as part of the Royal New Zealand Navy’s 75th Commemorations of the Battle on the 13th of December.

 

HMS ACHILLES was manned at the time of the Battle with 312 New Zealanders, and the commemoration celebrations included a March down Queen Street of nearly 600 Sailors and a public Open Day of the Navy Frigate HMNZS TE KAHA.
