What the Chaplains do
A guide to Chaplaincy Services
RNZN Chaplains are ordained priests/ministers employed by the Navy to provide both spiritual guidance and pastoral care to all Naval personnel, military and civilian, and their families. Our Chaplains are trained in 'first-aid' counselling, and can advise on referrals to other professional agencies. They can also assist with both personal and service related problems and issues and they are committed to working confidentially with all personnel.
At times chaplains are posted aboard Naval vessels and on Peacekeeping operations.
Any person can arrange to see a chaplain in the office at the Naval Base during work hours. However, in times of crisis, illness or bereavement, Chaplains will also visit service personnel, or their family members, in hospital or at home.
In an emergency, or in the event of a crisis, the Chaplains are available outside working hours (including weekends). See Chaplaincy Contact numbers.
It should be noted that this is merely a guide to Chaplaincy Services - the Chaplains are happy to be contacted directly to answer any questions at any time.
