POMUS Michael Kenyon

Leading Musician Michael Kenyon playing at the Tauranga Jazz Festival

Instrument: Trumpet

Before the switch to trumpet in 1999, Mike was a cornet player in a brass band. The same one as Jo, actually, but some two decades later. He attended two band competitions a year (Auckland and national) from the tender age of 11.

In 1999 Mike joined the Navy, and played with a few other bands around Auckland. The switch from cornet to trumpet came later that year. The last few years have had him performing with the Queen City Big Band, National Concert Band, Rodger Fox Big Band and regularly with a covers band called Martini and the Shakers.

In November last year Mike was honoured to be part of the contingent sent to France to bring home our Unknown Warrior. In April 2005 and 2006 he was part of the NZDF contingent to Gallipoli.
