A/POMUS Steven Packer

Instruments: Euphonium, Tuba

Steve started playing the trumpet and cornet at the age of twelve and quickly got hooked on Band Music as a teenager. In 1996, after five years of playing, Steve switched to the euphonium.

In June 1987 Steve auditioned, then joined the Royal Australian Navy Band as a Euphonium player. He progressed through the ranks to Petty Officer and enjoyed eleven years of fun, experience and hard work. Steve left the Navy in August 1998 and returned home to sunny Mildura. It was here that Steve took up his new role as an instrumental teacher.

Steve rekindled his naval career by joining the Royal New Zealand Navy Band in January 2002. He joined as a Euphonium player, and he is now also deputy conductor and arranger.

Steve loves all sports, especially golf, cricket and table tennis. He is continually growing his already impressive band library and CD collection. Steve confesses he is a Brass Band geek and would like to, if ever possible, travel and live in the UK to be able to play in one of the big name Brass Bands, writing and arranging music.
