AMUS Saskia Purllant

AMUS Purllant.

Instruments: Clarinet/Saxophone
Qualifications: BMUS Performance (Victoria University) Grade 8 Clarinet

Saskia first started learning music at the age of five on the piano. She still remembers her first music book and the first piece she ever played!  Around the age of ten or eleven Saskia started learning the Clarinet through the Birkdale North Music School. She loved the Clarinet so much that it took over her life and before she knew it the piano lessons she received were the only times she practiced, so it was decided that Clarinet lessons were the way of the future. This fascination with the Clarinet  and desire to move away from home led the way to study performance Clarinet at Victoria University in Wellington where she was tutored by Mary Scott, one of the fine Clarinet players from the NZSO.

Upon completion of her degree Saskia took a few years out from music before joining the Navy Band. She worked in a number of different establishments doing various jobs including an events co ordinator at a book store and even moved to Brisbane for a while.  Upon joining the band in 2004 Saskia has also enjoyed playing hockey for the Navy as well as the opportunity to travel.

At the moment Saskia lives in Birkenhead with her cats, Ollie and Pippin
