AMUS Craig Thompson of the Navy Band

Instrument: Trumpet

AMUS Craig Thompson began his career in music 15 years ago in Wanaganui when he decided to join his church band. At the same time he joined his local brass band, the Wanganui Garrison Band, on cornet. He remained with these bands for a number of years, attending many brass band competitions, and attaining top results in both solo and small group categories. He studied at the Wanganui School of Music from 1997 to 2000, during which time he was also a member of the National Youth Brass Band of New Zealand, and again in 2003 when it toured the UK.

Craig joined the RNZN Band in 2000 and started playing cornet for Waitakere City Brass, and a few years later moving to Dalewool Auckland Brass, who have also taken him to the UK. Craig was a member of the 150 strong contingent that went to Turkey in April to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the landings on the Gallipoli Peninsula. Craig spends his spare time watching movies, playing pool and tenpin bowling.
