POMUS Elizabeth Lawrence
Instrument: Trombone
Liz started playing the Tenor Horn in Wanganui at the age of 13, then moved to Whakatane and joined the Tasman Eastern Bay of Plenty Brass Band. She was the Under 19 Tenor Horn Champ when she was 16 and was selected for the National Youth Band on Solo Horn in 1999.
Liz joined the RNZN Band 12 May 1999 on French Horn, then moved onto trombone due to injuries. She also had a go on snare drum in a few Beat Retreats which was interesting.
She has played soccer for the Women’s Navy Team in a Tri-Service competition where she was selected for the New Zealand Defence Force Team as striker.
Completing the Petty Officer Command Course at the end of 2005 is her greatest accomplishment in her career to date.
