Stewards School

An assessment lunch

Following 14 weeks of Basic Common Training, where new recruits learn how to be sailors, all Navy Stewards move to the Steward School. Here they undertake a 10-week introductory course where they learn the basic skills of stewarding in a military environment. The course provides training in safe food handling practices, host responsibility, and food and beverage service.

Throughout their Naval careers, Stewards return to the Steward School  to continue their professional training. During this time, they acquire more advanced skills, including bar management. Along with training in personnel management and leadership, this training prepares Stewards for management positions, both at sea and ashore.
