The Ratel, or African Honey Badger

From the Guinness Book of Records (1997: p.34): 'The Ratel, or Honey Badger (Mellivora capensis), will defend itself against animals of any size, especially if they dare to wander too close to its breeding burrow. It has good reason to be brave: its skin is so tough that it is impervious to the stings of bees, the quills of porcupines and the bites of most snakes. It is also so loose that if the creature is held by the scruff of the neck, by a hyena or leopard for example, it can turn inside its skin and bite the attacker until it lets go.'
