LMED Gill in the Sickbay (NIS-02-052).

My name is Natasha Gill and I am 23 years old.  I am originally from Milton, a small town at the bottom of South Island, however I moved to Whangarei when I was twelve.

I attended Tikipunga High School, leaving to join the Royal New Zealand Navy when I finished the Seventh Form.

I joined the Navy in September 2001, and during my time I have served on HMNZS CANTERBURY, TE KAHA and now RESOLUTION.  I have also worked in the treatment room at the Naval Hospital, Devonport and spent two years teaching First Aid in the Medical Training department.  The highlight of my career so far would have to be the time I spent on the American ship, USS Peleliu and was fortunate enough, along with several colleagues, to be given the opportunity to work with the Americans to help carry out humanitarian aid relief in Papa New Guinea.  This was a great experience for me, with other highlights being the visits to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia and even some good NZ ports.

Since joining to RESOLUTION I have learnt that this is a great place to be posted (apart from the sea sickness) and it has made me a more confident Medic especially being in sole charge.  I have met a lot of new people; we are close to home and nearly always have cell phone reception.  More importantly, we have TV so I get to watch ‘Home and Away’ and ‘Shortland Street’ every night of the week!
